The Storm
On New Year's Eve this year a storm swept across the island, settled for the holiday
then went on its way having left a nice new layer of snow to brighten things up.  This
photo essay brings you to the island to watch the storm progress then to watch the
people return to work in the harbor and on the water.  I hope you enjoy it.
The Island
Vinalhaven Island is Maine's third largest island, its most populous island and home to the
world's most productive lobstering fleet.  It is located 12 miles off the coast and is accessed by
ferry from Rockland.  There are 1235 souls who make their permanent home there and many
more who spend all or part of their summers there.
